Multiple popular swimming spots in Dublin have been closed until at least tomorrow due to poor water quality caused by heavy rainfall.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council installed a prohibition notice at Seapoint beach last week following HSE consultations.
In a statement, the council said this notice was made after "updated sampling results" of the water.
The other Dublin locations that have been closed to swimmers include Blackrock Baths Shore, Corbawn Strand, Coliemore Harbour, Sandycove and the Forty Foot.
The swimming ban will remain in place until tomorrow, Thursday (June 11).
These bans have been put in place due to heavy rainfall around Dublin. The rainfall has caused poor water quality at these popular beaches and swimming spots due to storm drain overflow.
According to the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, it is important to avoid contact with water after a heavy rainfall event for “at least 48 hours to prevent the risk of getting a recreational water illness.”
The situation was reviewed by the council yesterday, June 9th, with further sampling taking place at high tide, the results of which are expected tomorrow.
Prior warning notices have been issued for Dún Laoghaire Baths, Killiney Beach and Whiterock Beach.
