He and his girlfriend died following scooter crash.

The 20-year-old student who was killed in a crash in Thailand has been named locally.

Max Hendrickson from Cabra in Dublin and his girlfriend, a Czech woman, are believed to have been travelling on a scooter when the crash occurred.

Mr Hendrickson was a well-known second-year student at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

In 2023 he was named Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year at the Fresh International Film Festival.

Labour TD Marie Sherlock said the community is devastated by the news.

"I have just become aware of this tragedy today my heart goes out to the family. I understand that he had an incredible future as a filmmaker ahead of him, and our thoughts are with the family."

Consular assistance is being provided to the family by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
