It retains a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’re planning on taking a little break from the heat this Sunday evening and flicking on the telly, then you’ve got some great choices of the movies on TV.

Our pick of the bunch is a multi-award-winning revenge flick from 2017 – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The Martin McDonagh-directed movie was a smash hit upon its release and, along with winning five BAFTAs and four Golden Globes, it also won the Oscar for Best Actress for Francis McDormand and Best Supporting Actor for Sam Rockwell.

McDormand stars as Mildred Hayes, a grieving woman who rents three roadside billboards to draw attention to her daughter’s unsolved rape and murder, which provokes the local townspeople and police officers in charge of the case.

Like most of McDonagh’s work, Three Billboards uses a large dabble of black comedy to get its point across, all while exploring very heavy themes such as grief, revenge and anger.

McDormand’s Oscar-winning performance is one of the best of the 21st century, and her character’s relentless quest for justice is the standout of the film, alongside very strong performances from Rockwell and Woody Harrelson.

If you’re into any of McDonagh’s other films, like The Banshees of Inisherin or In Bruges, then you’ll love Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, airing on Film Four at 11.10pm
