The man is reportedly understood to have been an academic.
A man has died in a house fire which occurred in the Kilmurry Student Village located on the University of Limerick campus.
In a statement to JOE, Gardaí said they received a report of the blaze at around 11.45pm on Thursday (20 June).
Limerick Fire Service units attended the scene and extinguished the fire, though the body of a man was discovered in the residence.
According to multiple outlets, it is understood that the man had been an academic and was aged in his late 80s or early 90s.

“At approximately 11:45pm on Thursday 20th June 2024, Gardaí received a report of a fire at a residence in the Kilmurry Village area of Limerick city.
“A number of Limerick Fire Service units attended the scene and extinguished the fire. A male was subsequently located deceased in the residence.
“The body remains at the scene. The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will be conducted today (Friday 21st June 2024).
“A post-mortem examination will be arranged and the results of this, along with the findings of the technical examination, will determine the course of the Garda investigation.”
