The move may put pressure on competitors.
Major energy provider SSE Airtricity have announced that they are slashing prices for a second time in 2024 and a third time within the last 12 months.
The company announces a 10% decrease in its standard unit rate for both electricity and gas from July 1.
This will see annual reductions of around €149 for electricity customers, €109 for gas customers and €254 for dual-fuel customers.
The cuts will benefit more than 300,000 domestic customers in the Republic of Ireland.

“We have worked hard over the last couple of years to support our customers and we remain committed to passing on reductions as soon as it is possible to do so,” said Klair Neenan, Managing Director of SSE Airtricity.
“We hope today’s announcement is welcome news for households.
“As always, we encourage any customer experiencing difficulty with their bills to contact us in confidence – we will work with them to find a solution.”
Other major providers announced cuts earlier in the year, but this is the first announcement of another round of cuts, which may put pressure on SSE Airtricity’s competitors.
