Enoch Burke case

He’s spent over 400 days in prison.

Enoch Burke has been released from Mountjoy Prison.

The teacher, who was jailed for a second time in September, was incarcerated due to his contempt of court order to stay away from his former school, Wilson’s Hospital School, in Westmeath.

Burke’s release was brought upon by Mr Justice Mark Sanfey.

The teacher was jailed in September after refusing to abide by a restraining order set on him by Wilson’s Hospital School.

In total, Mr Burke has spent over 400 days in prison.

Mr Justice Sanfey commented that he hoped Burke would use his time to reflect on the situation and insisted that the injunction remains in place.

If there is any further breach of the order, the judge said that he would have no hesitation in considering bringing Mr Burke back to prison.

Mr Burke left the Four Courts with members of his family and he continues to deny that he is in contempt of the court and claims that he was wrongfully imprisoned because of his objections to ‘transgenderism’ after a pupil requested to be called a different pronoun.
