Man in his 50s dies following brutal stabbing in Dublin

An investigation is ongoing.

A man in his 50s has died following a stabbing in the Dublin suburb of Finglas.

Gardaí were alerted to the incident on Hampton Wood Way on the St. Margaret’s Road in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The man was taken to the Mater Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

A man in his 30s was arrested in relation to the incident.

In a statement to JOE on Thursday morning, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “Gardaí are investigating a fatal assault on a man that occurred in the early hours of Thursday 20th June 2024 in the Dublin 11 area.

“At approximately 12:30am, Gardaí received a report of a male with serious injuries on Hampton Wood Way on the St. Margaret’s Road in Finglas.

“The male, aged in his 50s, was taken to the Mater Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

“The offices of the State Pathologist have been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place later today (Thursday 20th June 2024) at Dublin City Mortuary.

“A man in his 30s has been arrested as part of this investigation and he is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“The scene on the Hampton Wood Way is currently preserved for technical examination and an investigation is ongoing.
