The cast for the Netflix mystery sequel is shaping together nicely.
Irish actor Andrew Scott has reportedly landed a role in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third movie in the Knives Out franchise.
Variety reports that the All of Us Strangers and Ripley star will be one of the newcomers to the Netflix mystery series, alongside Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, Priscilla) and Josh O’Connor (Challengers, The Crown).
The trio will join the returning Daniel Craig, who will be reprising his role as gentleman sleuth Benoit Blanc.
Like its predecessors Knives Out and Glass Onion, Wake Up Dead Man will be written and directed by Rian Johnson – also known for the films Looper and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
And Scott isn’t the only possible Irish connection to the sequel, as the movie appears to have taken its title from the closing track of U2’s 1997 album Pop.
This would continue a trend as Knives Out shares a title with a Radiohead song and Glass Onion is also a song by The Beatles.
Plot details for Wake Up Dead Man are being kept under wraps, but Netflix has said the following:
“Daniel Craig is back as the suave Southern investigator in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, a new instalment of the whodunnit franchise written and directed by Rian Johnson. Blanc will be unraveling a brand-new murder mystery in an as-yet-undisclosed setting, surrounded by a new colourful cast of suspects.”
Johnson also said about the upcoming sequel:
“I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will land on Netflix globally sometime in 2025.
