So the Connacht rugby team is one of the entertainers promised at the NUIG Shag Ball?

14/02/2012 9:00 am

The “Shag Ball”, the Valentine’s Night highlight of the much-feted Shag Week at NUIG, is set to feature an appearance from some the Connacht rugby team, apparently.

The event, which given its title adds a somewhat debauched layer to the traditionally more romantic Valentine’s Day festivities, kicks off in the College Bar on campus at 8pm this evening.

And our attention was caught by the list of entertainers who’ve been lined up to perform tonight.

Because it includes, after headline acts Electric Lemon and Photobooth, the intriguing entry “Connacht Rugby Players”.

All proceeds from the event go to the Galway Rape Crisis Centre and SpunOut.ie, a national youth charity which aims to empower young people towards personal and social change.

So it’s all in a good cause. But there’s still the question of what the Connacht rugby lads will be doing on the night – a chin-up exhibition, maybe? Or an indoor drop-goal game? Or maybe they’ll join together in a choral performance of rugby-themed classical ditty “World In Union”?

If anyone has more of an idea, do let us know.
