In perhaps the most bizarre incident you'll hear of all year, a naked man was shot and killed in Miami after he was found eating the face of another man in broad daylight.

According to a report in the Miami Herald, Police in Miami were called to investigate a fight between two men in the city on Saturday afternoon and arrived to find a naked man, who according to witnesses, was chewing the face of another man with whom he had been in a confrontation with.

In Ireland, of course, the phrase 'chewing the face off someone' has entirely different connotations, but unfortunately it was the literal meaning which applied in this case as the man in question refused to comply with repeated police requests to back away from his victim, forcing police on the scene to open fire.

Amazingly, the crazed naked man continued the attack after he was shot, but was subsequently killed by the gunfire, while his victim was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

According to CBS Miami, police sources said the victim had "virtually no face" and was unrecognisable.

"[Officers] attempted to separate them, there was some sort of confrontation," Miami Police spokesman Willie Moreno told Local10.

Spokesman for Miami police’s Fraternal Order of Police, Javier Ortiz, said the officer who fired the fatal shots was “a hero.”

“Based on the information provided, our Miami police officer is a hero and saved a life,” he said.

Sergeant Altarr Williams, supervisor of Miami police’s Homicide Unit, said a man doesn’t have to be armed to be dangerous.

“There are other ways to injure people,” Williams said. “Some people know martial arts; others are very strong and can kill you with their hands.”
