It is good to see the name of Coppers going global but maybe not for this reason. One of US President Barack Obama’s Secret Service agents has become embroiled in a scandal that started in the infamous Dublin nightspot.

You may or not have heard about the trouble that the US President’s Secret Service agents are in. On a recent visit to Colombia, an agent is alleged to have slept with a prostitute, compromising the security of Obama and causing a fairly major row Stateside.

Now, thanks to the New York Daily News, it has emerged that the agent at the centre of that row, Arthur Huntington, is alleged to have also began an affair with a women he met in Harcourt Street’s finest night club, Copper Face Jacks.

According to the report, Huntington was here with President Obama in May last year but he found time for a little fun and of course he headed to the haunt of GAA stars and nurses, Coppers.

There he met a Canadian woman, told her he was single – he is married with two kids according to the report – and the affair began. The Canadian woman even flew to New York to met with him since their Coppers meeting, but when news of the Colombian story broke, she learned what he was up to and ended the affair.

The report describes Coppers as ‘loud and dark’ which is fair and apparently his chat up line was “You’re not getting away from me tonight”, a line that has surely been used before in there.

Will the place now become jammed with American tourists? This summer, Sunday nights could be even more interesting than usual in Coppers.
