Student complains about the Leaving Cert and gets 20,000 likes on Facebook
An Irish student who received 600 points in his Leaving Cert took to Facebook earlier in the week to complain about the system and his comment has now received well over 20,000 likes in the process.
Around this time last week, students across the country were opening their Leaving Cert results to see if the past two years of hard work was all worthwhile.
Some were over the moon with their results while others were a tad peeved they didn’t get the points they wanted, but there was one student who was utterly annoyed even though he received 600 points – one of the highest scores achieved this year.
Tiarnán Morris from Dublin took to Facebook to ‘complain about the sham that is the Irish Education system’, as he put it. He wrote directly to the Fine Gael page in order to give out about the fact that he scored the maximum amount of points yet he didn’t get his first choice course, which was medicine.
You can read exactly what he wrote over here.
The post was written on Monday and since then it has received over 22,250 likes on Facebook and it has attracted the attention of quite a few people, both in the comments section and in the wider media (Reddit and the likes).
Tiarnán argues that “[Ruairi Quinn] is more concerned with hollow statistics than the rewarding of quite simply, a disgusting amount of work.”
He might not be a doctor just yet, but we’re sure he’s bagged a lot more Facebook friends since Monday.
