Reports suggest that PayPal, the online payment company, is to expand its Irish business, which will bring a host of new jobs to the capital.

Dublin looks set to benefit from a jobs boost thanks to the Government’s jobs strategy, the same one that has received a lot of harsh criticism over the past number of weeks (for being utterly useless).

Many accused the Government of ‘not pulling the finger out’ when it came to job creation – one of the key points for Fine Gael’s government bid back in 2011.

However, it looks as though their jobs strategy could finally be moving up a gear, as there are suggestions that a major expansion of PayPal is expected within the next few months.

PayPal is a subsidiary of the online auction site eBay, which employs around 1,500 people at its European HQ in Blanchardstown, Dublin.

A report today in the Sunday Business Post suggests that PayPal may make the expansion announcement as soon as next week. Well, better late than never, we suppose.

According to the Irish Examiner, rumours circulated the media last year that the company planned to expand their Irish division by a thousand jobs.

Hopefully this is the start of new jobs creation trend.
