Donegal woman forced to drive car-less Gardaí to her burgled home
A Donegal woman was left in the peculiar situation of having to transport the long arm of the law to her burgled home because the Gardaí had no car available.
The Manorcunningham woman was shocked to find her house having been turned upside down by burglars. But she was even more shocked when she realised she's have to go collect the investigating officer from the local Garda station.
The woman was told by the officer that they did not have access to a patrol car. Hear that Minister Shatter?
Local politicians have been lining up to criticise the lack of patrol cars for stations in the area.
The Garda Press Officer was its usual jubilant, helpful self and told the Donegal Daily that they'd be making no comment.
The cutbacks to Garda spending has come at a bad time for Manorcunningham, recently a blind pensioner was robbed, as was a chip shop and the local car dealer.
Sinn Féin TD Padraig Mac Lochlainn told DonegalDaily.com: "I am greatly alarmed at this latest development. This is the evidence yet again of the lack of resources available to the Gardaí.
"The last thing we need to do is encourage criminals with slow response times from the Gardaí to crimes in the county."
One thing seems to be sure in this whole sorry situation - there'll be no high-speed Garda chases through Manorcunningham any time soon.
