Movies on TV

It’s Sunday.

We don’t quite have Saturday’s weather today, but luckily there’s some films on TV if you’re stuck in doors.

Here’s the pick of what’s on.

The Mummy – RTÉ2 – 6.35pm

Big budget remake starring Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis. It got slated by critics but if you’re in the mood for some action, you could do a lot worse.

Now You See Me – Film4 – 6.45pm

Heist movie with pyrotechnics.

Sherlock Holmes – ITV2 – 8pm

This provided a surprisingly good end to 2009 when it was released. Stars Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr.

High Plains Drifter – ITV4 – 9 pm

Something Clint Eastwood did consistently well down through the years was bring a certain menace to his character. Along with Dirty Harry, High Plains Drifter certainly fits this mould. One of the two best movies on tonight.

Hidden Figures – Film4 – 9pm

Three female African-American mathematicians play a pivotal role in astronaut John Glenn’s launch into orbit but have to deal with racial and gender discrimination at work.

The second of the two best movies on tonight.

Bridget Jones’s Baby – Comedy Central – 9pm

The second time on TV this week. We’ll say it again, the third instalment and much better than the second.

Dirty Dancing – Channel 5 – 10pm

Nobody puts baby in a corner.

The Monuments Men – Channel 4 – 10.55pm

Great cast.

The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – TG4 – 11pm

Go on the extraordinary journey John, Paul, George and Ringo took in the early 1960s. Excellent viewing.

The Thomas Crown Affair – BBC One – 11.45pm

Pierce Brosnan has been on our screens once already this weekend, why not tune into him again?
