Study: Men eat their greens, but only to keep the wife happy
According to a new study carried out in the States, married men will eat their greens at home, but only to keep the wife off their backs.
Do you come home after a long day of work only to sit down to a plate full of rabbit food? After you’re finished your greens do you nip out to the chippy for a sneaky spice burger? Well sir, you’re not alone.
Researchers at the University of Michigan found that husbands often come home to a bland dinner they haven’t been consulted on and not wanting to hurt the little lady’s feelings they’ll just chow down and get on with it. We’re nice like that.
However, this causes us to stray away and hit up our local fast food joints, for a saturated fat fix. According to the researchers, it’s not uncommon for a bloke to head to an all you can eat buffet for a “landslide of food” after eating the wife’s meal.
So what can you do to stop yourself from playing away - in the food department that is? Well Professor Derek Griffith, who led the research team at the University of Michigan, suggests that a compromise should be made between your wife’s healthy food and your desire for tasty food.
"The key to married men adopting a healthier diet is for couples to discuss and negotiate the new, healthier menu changes as a team.
"I think at dinner a lot of men are eating healthier, but they compensate for the dissatisfaction of not eating what they want by making unhealthier choices outside the home,” said Professor Griffith.
