Kerry forward Sean O’Sullivan has retired from inter-county football for a second time, after just over an hour and a half of football this year.

O’Sullivan was coaxed out of retirement by Kingdom manager Jack O’Connor during the winter months, bringing to an end a two-year absence from the county panel.

However, the 32-year-old has now decided to call it a day again after just two weekends of football, which culminated in his substitution at half-time in Kerry’s National Football League defeat to Armagh at the weekend.

Quoted in the Irish Examiner, O’Connor said, “He was anxious to have a go at it because there would have been a feeling he went too early after the 2009 All-Ireland win.”

Cromane clubman O’Sullivan won four All-Ireland medals during his first spell as part of the Kingdom set-up.

In his second he won one game, against Dublin at Croke Park.

If that’s to be his last win as a Kerry footballer, there are worse ways to bow out.
