Video: Robbie bags a brace and Becks scores a belter in MLS Thriller
Waking up to Robbie Keane goals on a Sunday morning is becoming an increasingly familiar occurrence, while David Beckham also got in on the act for the LA Galaxy last night.
Obviously suffering no hangover from the Euros, the Irish captain has been in free-scoring form since returning to LA and bagged a brace in the 5-3 victory over the Portland Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field last night.
Keane’s thunder was stolen by Beckham, however, who also scored twice, including an absolute belter from long range during the eight goal thriller.
The standard might be a long way off what he experienced at the Euros, but after a chastening experience at that tournament, it is great to see Robbie amongst the goals again, and he took his tally for the season to eight with two well taken finishes.
Beckham, meanwhile, was back doing what he does best only a few weeks after attracting headlines for the wrong reasons when he expertly rattled the ball of an opposition player who was trying to waste time while lying prone on the turf and getting into a row with a mascot afterwards (Yes, that actually happened).
A 35-yard cracker was followed by a trademark free-kick and not wanting to be completely overshadowed by his high profile teammates, the Galaxy’s other star, Landon Donovan, converted a penalty to ensure his presence on the scoresheet.
Say what you like about the MLS, but there was plenty of entertainment in this one and you can check out the highlights in the video above. If you’re a little tight for time, you can see Beckham’s goals at 2:20 and 3:16 in the clip, while Robbie’s efforts arrive at 5:55 and 9:15.
Enjoy.
