Oh my God, they binned Kenny. Dalglish out of Anfield

16/05/2012 4:33 pm

It has been rumoured for a few days now that Kenny Dalglish was on his way out of Anfield. Today, it was confirmed.

He returned to Liverpool as manager on Jan 9, 2011, and led the Reds to a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United. Now, less than 18 months later and after a very bad end to the season, Dalglish is on is way out the Shankly Gates.

The debate over the legendary Scottish manager has raged since the end of the season and the mood of upheaval was only heightened when Dalglish was called to Boston to discuss the season just gone with Fenway Sports Group. Reports of Dalglish’s demise floated around yesterday but today, the confirmation came that the 61-year-old leaves Liverpool for the second time in his illustrious career, with most reports claiming he was sacked.

This move is bound to divide Liverpool fans. Those sorry to see him go will point to his stabilising effect on the club when he came in, his success in landing a trophy and reaching the FA Cup final and the healing of the rift between the club and the fans during the ownership of Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

However, there are lots for critics to point to as well. A dreadful run of form at season’s end; the big money spent on players who have failed to fire and the disastrous handling of the Luis Suarez race row issue.

One man who will be happy is his predecessor on the Anfield hot seat, Roy Hodgson, who will see some of his England squad flak reduced tomorrow.

Anyway, whoever steps in, they face a very big job, with Roberto Martinez' name already a front runner.

Who do Liverpool fans want? Let us know below.
