According to a recent report published in the journal Scientific Reports, marijuana may be safer than previously thought.
The researchers wanted to find the risk of death associated with a variety of substances, both legal and illegal, including: Alcohol, tobacco, meth, cocaine, heroin, marijuana and ecstasy.
According to The Washington Post, the researchers found “that at the level of individual use, alcohol was the deadliest substance, followed by heroin and cocaine.”
As for pot, it was found to be 114-times less deadly than booze. Of all the substances studied, marijuana was found to be the only illegal drug with a low mortality risk to users.
Speaking about the findings, the researchers said: “Specifically, the results confirm that the risk of cannabis may have been overestimated in the past.
“In contrast, the risk of alcohol may have been commonly underestimated.”
