Songs for Ireland
The Offside Trap (feat. MC Eoin Goal) comin' at ya with our latest Euro 2012 song entry
Of all the musical genres covered in the search for our Euro 2012 anthem, the one that was conspicuous by its absence was rap. Until now, that is.
Mention of the words ‘rap’ and ‘Ireland’ in the same sentence normally brings to mind nightmarish images of the ill-advised TV programme that was broadcast earlier this year, but this rap from the Offside Trap (those last few words will be JOE’s last ever attempt at rap, we promise) isn’t that bad at all.
That might be because the rap, by MC Eoin Goal, forms only part of the song ‘Ireland!’, which goes to the tune of '2-4-6-8 Motorway' by the Tom Robinson Band and is performed by Ireland's most lethal – and surely only – football-rap-rock combo, The Offside Trap.
The Offside Trap are all from Meath and they tell me that MC Eoin Goal is from somewhere in the darkest depths of Wicklow, but all five will be no doubt united in their support of the Boys in Green in a few weeks time. For more information, check out the group’s Facebook page.
Have a listen to their song in the video above and let us know what you think in the comment box below.
