Not another Liverpool racism scandal...
In the biggest Twitter cock-up since Starbucks called us all "British" yesterday, Liverpool's Daniel Pacheco sent out a warm but dubious message of support to teammate Glen Johnson.
The 21-year-old Spaniard unwittingly embroiled himself in a Twitter faux pas this afternoon by referring to the English right-back as “Negrito”, a Spanish colloquialism that has been deemed offensive by many. He then further compounded the problem by saying that he often refers to Johnson by using the term.
For the Reds, the public message from Pacheco recalls memories of Luis Suarez’ eight-game punishment from an FA disciplinary panel in late December after they delivered a verdict stating that on the balance of probability, the striker had racially abused Manchester United’s Patrice Evra in an October fixture, referring to the player by using the term 'negro'.
So never mind attempting to sign Swansea loan sensation Gylfi Sigurdsson, it now appears that after this afternoon Brendan Rodgers' first task at Anfield will be to slap Pacheco around the head. You can see how the full incident played out on Twitter below:
