Tonight's TV: X-Men, John Carter and Olympic boxing coverage
Wednesday's TV features the sci-fi thriller X-Men, John Joe Nevin fights in the Olympics and TV3 takes a look at Ireland's black market.
Main Event: Blackmarket Ireland, TV3, 9pm
This week’s episode sees members of TV3’s crack team of investigative journalists as they go undercover at a Smithfield Fair, where concerns are raised about the treatment of horses being bought and sold. They also explore the rise in counterfeit items including designer handbags and medicines, while Jim McCabe discovers a number of Irish websites that appear to sell illicit goods. Thankfully, you won’t find any of that going on here… unless of course you’re looking for some bootleg Beanie Babies.
Sport Pick: Live Olympics 2012 RTE Two, 7.15pm
Tonight, like every night, Bill O'Herlihy introduces the evening's Olympic coverage, which includes four swimming finals at the Aquatics Centre, boxing, hockey, badminton, basketball and beach volleyball. We’re most interested in the boxing seeing as we have John Joe Nevin fighting in the ring, so with that in mind, the boxing last-16 bouts continues tonight.
Movie Pick: X-Men, E4, 8pm
Super-powered outsiders Rogue and Wolverine enlist at a school run by a benevolent psychic professor for mutants, who are shunned by society. It’s next door to Hogwarts in case you want to take a tour. However, they all agree to unite to take on a superhuman mutant terrorist faction intent on taking over mankind. Bryan Singer's sci-fi comic-book adventure, starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin and Halle Berry.
On-Demand Pick: John Carter
There aren't many options on terrestrial TV tonight, so we recommend you try out UPC's new On Demand service if you want to continue watching top class entertainment, as the service includes the RTÉ Player, 3Player and a host of boxsets and other shows, free to all UPC customers. This week's pick is the movie blockbuster John Carter.
