It's all fun and games until a comedian breaks a leg. Well Michael McIntyre didn't quite break anything in Cork last night, but he's on crutches after trying to take the piss out of England keeper Joe Hart.

The plump comedian went just a little too far trying to re-enact Hart's failure to stop Pirlo's penalty hitting the back of the net. It's probably poetic justice that McIntyre did himself a mischief in front of an Irish audience whilst trying to parody his countryman's effort to keep them in Euro 2012.

Michael was playing the Opera House in Cork last night when the accident happened. He threw himself the wrong way in the style of Joe Hart and landed badly on his leg. He called an early interval and staggered off with a bruised leg and ego.

McIntyre was back on stage shortly later - this time on crutches. Sitting down for the rest of the show, he told the audience: "You can search your souls. You’re all entitled to your money back. Don’t mind me. I am very rich. This is not the show you paid for — unless you enjoy casualty waiting rooms."

The English toffee-accented comedian was still putting a satirical slant on it afterwards saying: "Work in Progress is what the show is called and I thought around the age of two I’d learned to walk.

"“Unfortunately that’s what needs work rather than the jokes which were spiralling into something quite glorious when Pirlo hit the football."

Lesson learned for Michael - take the piss out of your national team, but just don't try to re-enact their cock-ups.
