Roisin Dubh, Galway

11/05/2012 3:30 pm

It's Friday, so it must be Pub of the Week time. This week we had a chat with Eoin McGrath of the Roisin Dubh in Galway.

I walk inside the door for the first time – what am I faced with?

A small bar with an open fire, with an archway and staircase. (It gets bigger)

What’s the sports set-up like?

Matches on request,  big screen with big sound in the back for all finals or some such.

What’s on tap? Any unusual drinks on tap or in the fridge?

Galway Hooker on tap, small selection of world beers in the fridge.

What’s on the jukebox?

Staffs choice really, Indie, electro, rock, blues and anything from Britains Got Talent.

Any special offers these days?

Check out www.roisindubh.net for offers on gigs or comedy nights, usually at least one a week.

Can we find you on Facebook?

But of course, where you’ll find our photobooth albums for the last few months. http://www.facebook.com/roisindubhgalway.

What’s the snack situation?

Crisps OR Nuts. We like variety.

Saturday night male to female ratio – is it in lads’ favour?

I can’t say I’ve done a head count. I reckon 50/50.

Any good Jameson cocktails?

Shot of Jameson, Shot of Cointreau over ice, wedge of lime, topped up with Coke. A customer put us on to this one.

What’s the smoking area or beer garden like?

Quite large, VERY popular, mostly dry but then again we are in Galway.

Is there a snug?

There is, it’s fiercely coveted.

Who’s the most famous customer you’ve ever had?

Cillian Murphy, Michael D. Higgins (he counts right) then there’s the people who have played here...

Any late license we should know about?

7 nights a week, 360 days a year. We’re not known for our morning  jogs.

What’s the footwear policy?

PUMA only.

What’s the best way to stop table quiz cheaters?

Don’t have table quizzes?

Any games to keep us interested – pool/darts/rings etc?

Afraid not unless you count balancing a coin on a lemon(sounds easy right?)

We have a family outing coming up – what’s the deal with the function room?

No function room as such but we have a small bar that can hold up to 80.

Any special characters we should look out for?

That’s for you to decide.

Why are Irish pubs the best in the world?

Have you ever had a really decent pint anywhere else? Didn’t think so.
